The Allergen, Individual-Food Brazil Nut test, also known as a specific IgE blood test, is a diagnostic tool used to identify allergies to Brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa). It measures the immune system's reaction to the nut by detecting the presence of specific IgE antibodies produced in response to allergens. This test is helpful for individuals experiencing symptoms like itching, rashes, or digestive issues after consuming Brazil nuts, allowing them to confirm the allergy and avoid the nut to prevent future reactions.

Brazil nuts are tree nuts from the Bertholletia excelsa tree native to the Amazon tropical rainforest. Common tree nut allergies include almonds, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, and cashews. Ingestion of Brazil nuts or its products may activate a response in an individual's immune system. The key allergens in Brazil nuts are the proteins called Ber e 1 & 2. The body views these allergens as harmful and produces IgE antibodies to combat the invaders. Unfortunately, these antibodies cause the release of a chemical called histamine, triggering an allergic reaction.

If you are allergic to walnuts or almonds are more likely to be allergic to Brazil nuts and vice versa. It is important to test for multiple nut allergies to determine what foods to avoid, especially due to the fact that many different foods come in contact with nuts during production.
