HDV-RNA Detection by PCR - EDTA Plasma

This test detects the presence of Hepatitis D Virus RNA in plasma.

• To diagnose HDV infection
• To monitor the progression of HDV infection in patients with chronic HBV (hepatitis B virus)
• To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for HDV
• To detect HDV infection in people who have had close contact with someone infected with HDV

Your doctor might recommend this test if you have

• symptoms like jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite,
• chronic Hepatitis B, or
• are at risk for Hepatitis D, especially if you have lived with someone with Hepatitis D.

If your results show a positive result for HDV RNA in your blood plasma, it indicates an active Hepatitis D infection.

A healthcare professional will draw a blood sample from your arm.

The sample will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

• You might be asked to fast for 8–12 hours.
