Centromere Antibody Serum

The Centromere Antibody Serum test measures the levels of centromere antibodies in your blood. 

• To evaluate patients with signs and symptoms of systemic sclerosis, such as skin involvement, Raynaud phenomenon, and joint pain.
• To assist in the diagnosis of systemic sclerosis and differentiate it from other autoimmune diseases.
• To monitor disease progression and assess the effectiveness of treatment in patients with systemic sclerosis.

The Centromere Antibody Serum test may be recommended if you:

• Have clinical signs and symptoms suggestive of systemic sclerosis.
• Have been diagnosed with systemic sclerosis and need monitoring.
• Are being evaluated for an autoimmune disease and need to differentiate systemic sclerosis from other conditions.
• Are undergoing treatment for systemic sclerosis to assess its effectiveness.

Abnormal results may indicate the presence of systemic sclerosis or other autoimmune diseases.

This test involves drawing a small sample of blood from a vein in your arm using a needle and a syringe. You may feel a slight pinch as the needle is inserted, but the procedure is generally quick and painless.

Before the test:

• No specific preparations are usually required.
• However, it is important to inform your doctor about any medications you are taking as certain medications can interfere with the test results.
• Follow any instructions given by your doctor regarding fasting or avoiding certain foods or medications.
