ACTH Adrenocorticotropic Hormone Test

The ACTH test measures the levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in your blood.

• To assess adrenal insufficiency and hypersecretion

• To diagnose conditions such as Addison's disease, Cushing's syndrome, and pituitary disorders that affect ACTH production

• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for these conditions

• The ACTH test may be recommended if you have symptoms such as unexplained fatigue, weight loss, muscle weakness, or skin changes suggestive of adrenal dysfunction.

• Your doctor may also order this test if you have already been diagnosed with adrenal or pituitary disorders to monitor your hormone levels and treatment response.

Abnormal results can indicate conditions such as Addison's disease (low levels) or Cushing's syndrome (high levels).

During the test, a small amount of blood will be drawn from a vein in your arm. The blood sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.
