Routine Examination (Ascitic Fluid)

This test measures the presence of fluid within the peritoneal cavity. This test helps identify infectious diseases and provides insights into the underlying causes of fluid accumulation, such as liver disease, cancer, or infections. It assists in directing appropriate treatment strategies.

• To detect and diagnose infectious diseases in the peritoneal cavity
• To aid in understanding the cause of fluid accumulation, such as liver disease, tuberculosis, pancreatitis, or cancer
• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for infectious diseases or conditions associated with ascites

• If you have symptoms like abdominal pain, distension, or swelling.
• If a previous diagnosis suggests infection, liver disease, cancers, or other conditions that cause fluid accumulation.
• To evaluate treatment progress for infectious diseases or conditions associated with ascites.

• Abnormal results may indicate the presence of an infection, liver disease, tuberculosis, pancreatitis, cancer, or other conditions causing ascites.
• Abnormal results do not confirm a specific diagnosis but provide crucial information for further evaluation.
• Discuss your test results with your doctor for proper interpretation and guidance regarding additional diagnostic tests if required.

• A small amount (2ml) of ascitic fluid is collected using a sterile, leak-proof container.
• The sample is sent to the laboratory for examination under a microscope.
• The test is conducted daily from 9 am to 9 pm, and results are reported after 12 hours.

• Provide accurate specimen details, including site and clinical history.
• Fast for at least 4 hours before the test if necessary, as advised by your doctor.
• Follow any specific instructions provided by your doctor before the test.
