Parvovirus B19 IgG Antibody by EIA - Serum

This test detects the Parvovirus B19-specific IgG antibodies in your blood.

• To check immunity levels to Parvovirus B19 in pregnant women and diagnose any past infection • To diagnose a current or previous parvovirus infection • To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for parvovirus infection • To assess the risk of foetal anaemia if pregnant women get infected

Your doctor may recommend this test if you have • an active or previous parvovirus infection, • a history of exposure to someone with parvovirus, • a history of miscarriage or stillbirth, or • a history of blood disorder, such as sickle cell anaemia, that can cause foetal anaemia.

Elevated levels of the antibodies indicate past infection or vaccine-induced immunity. Low levels suggest a lack of immunity.

This test involves taking a blood sample from your arm using a needle and a syringe. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for testing.

• Parvovirus B19 DNA PCR: This test detects the presence of parvovirus B19 DNA in the blood. • Complete blood count (CBC): This test measures the number of different types of blood cells in your body.

Fifth Disease is a mild viral illness that is caused by the human parvovirus B19. It is most common in children and causes a distinctive rash on the face and body. It is often known as "slapped cheek" rash.
