Macro TSH Serum Test

The Macro TSH test helps detect large protein-bound complexes of TSH in the blood, which are not biologically active. This is done by measuring the proportion of free TSH and the percentage of recovery after precipitation of the macro-TSH complexes.

• To diagnose and monitor subclinical hypothyroidism, a condition where TSH levels are elevated but thyroid hormone levels are still within normal range
• To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for subclinical hypothyroidism
• To assess the risk of developing hypothyroidism or other thyroid-related conditions

This test may be recommended if you have

• symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, depression, and sensitivity to cold, which could be indicative of hypothyroidism,
• a family history or genetic risk factors for thyroid disorders, or
• been diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism or are undergoing treatment for it.

Abnormal results may indicate hypothyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism, or other thyroid disorders.

A healthcare professional will collect a blood sample from your arm. The sample will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

• Follow any specific instructions provided by your doctor, such as avoiding certain medications that can affect TSH levels.

• Free T4 and Free T3 Tests: These tests measure the levels of active thyroid hormones in your blood.
• Thyroid Antibody Tests: These tests help diagnose autoimmune thyroid disorders.
