Leptospira IgG Antibodies

This test is done for several reasons:

• To diagnose a current or past infection with Leptospira bacteria

Your doctor may recommend this test if you:

• Have symptoms of leptospirosis, such as high fever, muscle pain, and jaundice
• Have been exposed to areas or activities where there is a higher risk of contracting leptospirosis, such as farming or water sports
• Have a history of exposure to Leptospira bacteria and require monitoring

The presence of IgG antibodies specific to Leptospira indicates exposure or previous infection with these bacteria. Abnormal results may suggest an ongoing infection or a recent past infection. During this test:

• A small sample of your blood will be collected from a vein in your arm
• The sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis
• The laboratory will measure the levels of Leptospira-specific IgG antibodies in your blood

• Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements you are currently taking, as they may affect the test results
• Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arm for blood collection

• Leptospira PCR: This test detects the genetic material of Leptospira bacteria in your blood or urine and helps confirm an active infection.
• Complete Blood Count (CBC): This test evaluates your overall blood cell count and can indicate if there is an ongoing infection or inflammation.
