JEV RNA Detection by Real-time PCR - EDTA Plasma

This test detects the presence of Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) in your blood using a method called Real-Time PCR.

• To detect if you have been infected with the Japanese Encephalitis Virus • To monitor the effectiveness of treatment if you have already been diagnosed with JEV

Your doctor may recommend this test if you have • symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, seizures, or confusion, • been exposed to mosquitoes in areas where JEV is common, • travelled to an area where JEV is prevalent, or • already been diagnosed with JEV and require further monitoring of the condition.

If the test results are positive, it indicates that JEV is present in your blood and that you have been infected with the virus.

A healthcare professional will collect a blood sample from your arm. They will send the sample to the lab for analysis.

• You may be asked to fast for a few hours before the test. • Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking and any allergies you have. • Inform your doctor if you have any specific requirements.

Serology tests: These tests measure if your body has produced antibodies against JEV.
