JC-BK Virus DNA Detection by Real-time PCR - EDTA Blood

This test detects the presence of two viruses, JC polyoma and BK virus.

• To detect infections caused by JC polyoma and BK viruses • To monitor and prevent complications such as kidney disease in immunocompromised individuals

This test is recommended for individuals who have • recently received an organ transplant or bone marrow transplant, • weak immune systems due to chemotherapy or other medications, • certain underlying conditions that affect the immune system, or • symptoms of acute infection caused by these viruses.

If the test shows positive results indicating viral DNA, further testing may be required to detect the extent of infection and confirm the diagnosis.

This test involves drawing a sample of blood from your vein. The collected blood is sent to the laboratory for processing.

Viral culture testing: This test may be done to confirm the diagnosis after detecting viral DNA.
