JC-BK Virus DNA Detection by Real-time PCR - Urine

This test detects the presence of JC polyoma and BK virus in your urine using the Real-Time PCR method.

• To detect the presence of JC polyoma and BK viruses • To help patients with weakened immune systems due to conditions such as HIV • To oversee the immunity of people who have had an organ transplant or are undergoing chemotherapy

Your doctor may recommend this test if you have • a weakened immune system due to conditions such as HIV, • had an organ transplant or are undergoing chemotherapy, or • symptoms such as fever, urinary tract infections, or other symptoms suggestive of viral infections.

If you test positive for JC polyoma or BK virus, it may indicate an active or past infection.

You will be asked to collect a 15ml spot urine sample in a sterile leak-proof container. The sample will be sent to the laboratory for testing.
