JC-BK Virus DNA Detection By Real-time PCR - EDTA Plasma Test

This test detects the presence of JC Polyoma and BK viruses in EDTA Plasma samples.

• To detect JC Polyoma and BK viruses in patients with weakened immune systems • To help diagnose conditions like progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) caused by the viruses • To monitor the effectiveness of antiviral therapy for these conditions

The test is usually recommended for people with weakened immune systems, such as those living with HIV/AIDS, undergoing chemotherapy or organ transplantation, or suffering from autoimmune diseases. It is also recommended for patients with neurological symptoms such as confusion, memory loss, or speech impairments.

Abnormal results indicate the presence of one or both viruses. This could suggest conditions like kidney damage, PML, or cancer.

The test involves collecting 3ml of EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) Plasma in a sterile plain vacutainer. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for testing.
