c-Myc Antibody IHC

C-Myc antibody IHC test is a laboratory test that uses antibodies to detect the presence of c-MYC protein in tissue samples.  

• To diagnose and monitor certain types of cancers, such as leukaemia, lymphoma, and breast cancer
• To assess the effectiveness of cancer treatment
• To determine the prognosis or likelihood of disease progression
• To guide treatment decisions; predicts how well a patient will respond to certain types of treatment, such as Herceptin

C-Myc Antibody test may be recommended if you:

• Have symptoms or signs suggestive of certain types of cancers, such as unexplained weight loss, fatigue, enlarged lymph nodes, or abnormal blood count
• Have been diagnosed with cancer and need to monitor your response to treatment
• Are at high risk for developing certain types of cancers

Abnormal results of the C-Myc Antibody test may indicate that cancer is present. However, the test is not diagnostic and further testing may be required to confirm the diagnosis. Discuss your test results with your doctor, who will interpret them considering your medical history, other test results, and clinical findings.

• A tissue sample is collected, usually from a previous biopsy or surgery.
• The sample is sent to the laboratory for testing.
• The laboratory uses an immunohistochemistry technique to detect and measure the levels of C-Myc protein in the tissue sample.

Before the test:

• Provide the original histopathology report and any relevant clinical and radiological details.
• Submit a paraffin block containing formalin-fixed tissue.
• Follow any specific instructions given by your doctor regarding fasting or medication use.

• Genetic testing: To identify specific genetic mutations associated with certain types of cancer
• Imaging tests: Such as CT scans, MRIs, or PET scans to evaluate tumour size, location, and spread
