Immature Platelet Fraction (IPF)

This test measures the percentage of young, immature platelets in your blood sample.

• To assess platelet production and maturation in various health conditions
• To monitor bone marrow recovery after chemotherapy or radiation therapy
• To diagnose and monitor thrombocytopenia or low platelet count
• To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for thrombocytopenia

Your doctor may recommend this test if you:

• Have persistent unexplained bleeding or bruising
• Have a known blood disorder affecting platelet production or function
• Are undergoing treatment that may affect platelet counts
• Require monitoring for recovery after chemotherapy or radiation therapy

Abnormal results may indicate conditions such as aplastic anemia, immune thrombocytopenia, myelodysplastic syndrome, or bone marrow disorders.

• A small blood sample will be collected from a vein in your arm
• The sample will be sent to a laboratory for analysis

To prepare for the test:

• No fasting or special dietary restrictions are necessary
• Follow any other specific instructions provided by your doctor

• Complete Blood Count (CBC): Provides detailed information about different components of your blood, including platelets
• Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy: Helps evaluate the structure and functioning of the bone marrow
• Coagulation Tests: Assess the ability of blood to clot properly

IPF Index or Reticulated Platelet Count
