CD30 IHC

The CD30 test evaluates the expression of CD30 and helps determine the presence and severity of classical Hodgkin's disease, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, and embryonal carcinoma.

The CD30 test has several uses, such as:

• To diagnose classic Hodgkin's disease, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, and embryonal carcinoma

• To aid in risk assessment for developing complications or relapse

The CD30 test is recommended for individuals who:

• Have symptoms such as enlarged lymph nodes or unexplained weight loss
• Have been diagnosed with classic Hodgkin's disease or related conditions, and require treatment evaluation or monitoring
• Have a family history or genetic risk factors for these diseases

Abnormal results of the CD30 IHC test may indicate that lymphoma is present. However, the test is not diagnostic and further testing may be required to confirm the diagnosis. Abnormal results should be discussed with a doctor for further evaluation and appropriate management.

During the CD30 test:

• A sample of your tissue, typically a paraffin block, will be required for testing
• It will be sent to the laboratory for histology and immunohistochemistry analysis
• The test does not require any active participation from you; it is performed by skilled laboratory technicians

• There are no specific preparations required from your end before the CD30 test.
• However, make sure to provide the original histopathology report and any relevant clinical and radiological details to assist in the interpretation of the results.

Classical Hodgkin's disease is a type of cancer that originates in white blood cells called lymphocytes. It is characterized by the presence of abnormal Reed-Sternberg cells in the lymph nodes or other lymphoid tissues. Classic Hodgkin's disease can cause enlarged lymph nodes, fever, night sweats, weight loss, and itching. Early diagnosis and treatment offer better outcomes for patients.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). NHL is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's immune system. The lymphatic system helps to fight infection. In ALCL, abnormal lymphocytes, which are a type of white blood cell, grow in lymph nodes, which are pea-sized glands found in the neck, groin, armpits, and other parts of the body. ALCL is characterized by the presence of large, atypical cells that often have horseshoe-shaped nuclei. These cells are negative for CD3, a protein that is found on T cells, and positive for CD30, a protein that is found on a variety of cells, including T cells, B cells, and Hodgkin's lymphoma cells.

Embryonal carcinoma is a type of germ cell tumor (GCT) that can occur in the ovaries or testes. GCTs are a group of cancers that arise from germ cells, which are the cells that produce eggs and sperm. Embryonal carcinoma is the most common type of GCT in the testes and the second most common type of GCT in the ovaries.
