CD20 IHC

This test measures the expression of CD20 to determine the presence and levels of abnormal B cells in the body. It helps in diagnosing and monitoring certain diseases, such as lymphomas and autoimmune disorders.

CD20 testing is done for multiple reasons, including:

• Diagnosing and monitoring B cell lymphomas, such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma
• Evaluating the effectiveness of treatment for lymphomas and autoimmune disorders
• Identifying certain autoimmune disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus

CD20 testing may be recommended if you:

• Have symptoms suggestive of lymphoma or an autoimmune disorder such as swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and weight loss
• A family history of B-cell lymphoma
• Have already been diagnosed with a B cell-related condition and require monitoring
• Are undergoing treatment for a B cell-related disease and need to assess the effectiveness of therapy

Abnormal results may indicate the presence of lymphomas, autoimmune disorders, or other conditions affecting B cells. Further evaluation by your doctor is necessary to determine the underlying cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

During CD20 testing:

• A small sample of tissue (paraffin block) from a previous biopsy is required for testing.
• The sample will be analysed using histology and immunohistochemistry techniques to measure CD20 expression.
• Results are typically available on the fourth day, providing valuable information about B cell activity in your body.

Before CD20 testing:

• You need to provide the original histopathology report and relevant clinical and radiological details.
• No specific preparations are required prior to the test.
• Follow any instructions from your doctor regarding medications or dietary restrictions, if applicable.

• Immunophenotyping: This test helps classify different types of lymphomas based on their cell surface markers.
• Flow cytometry: It analyses the characteristics of cells, including B cells, in a sample to aid in diagnosing various conditions.
• Molecular testing: This type of testing looks for specific genetic changes in lymphomas or autoimmune disorders.
