CD10 IHC

The CD10 immunohistochemistry (IHC) test is a laboratory procedure that uses antibodies to detect the presence of CD10, a protein found in B cells.

• To identify abnormal cells specific to follicular lymphoma
• To determine the extent and severity of the disease
• Help rule out other types of B-cell lymphoma
• To assess the responsiveness to treatment
• To plan appropriate treatment strategies
• To monitor disease progression or remission

This test may be recommended if you have:

• Been diagnosed with follicular lymphoma
• Symptoms such as painless swelling of lymph nodes, fatigue, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss
• A family history of lymphoma
• An abnormal result in previous tests, such as blood work or imaging studies

Abnormal CD10 levels may indicate the presence of follicular lymphoma or other conditions affecting the lymph nodes. It is important to note that abnormal results do not confirm a diagnosis and should be discussed with your doctor, who will consider other factors like medical history and additional tests for accurate interpretation. Other conditions can also cause a positive result, such as reactive follicular hyperplasia or chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

During this test, a small tissue sample is taken from a previous biopsy or surgery. The sample is then sent to the laboratory for testing. You will not experience any discomfort during this procedure.

There are no specific preparations required for this test. However, your doctor may request your medical history, previous biopsy reports, and any relevant clinical and radiological details to aid in the interpretation of the test results.

• Bone marrow biopsy to check for lymphoma involvement in the bone marrow
• Flow cytometry: This test examines cells from the blood or lymph nodes to see if they have the characteristics of follicular lymphoma cells.
• Cytology: This test examines cells from the pleural fluid or a biopsy to see if they are cancerous.

Follicular lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterised by abnormal growth of B-cells in the lymph nodes. It usually presents as a painless swelling of lymph nodes in the neck, groin, or armpits. Treatment options include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.
