Phenytoin Blood test is performed to determine the concentration of phenytoin in blood with an aim to keep level of the drug within acceptable range.
Phenytoin (known by its brand name, Dilantin/Eptoin) is an anticonvulsant/antiepileptic medicine given to treat or prevent the reappearance of certain types of seizures.
A high concentration may lead to drop in blood pressure, a low concentration might be unsuccessful in preventing seizure, and cause various other side effects.
Levels should be monitored closely in patients with renal failure
