Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) by LBC

Bronchoalveolar Lavage or BAL is a minimally invasive procedure. A sterile normal saline solution is instilled into a subsegment of the lung, which is then suctioned out and collected for analysis. This includes examining different cell types, such as macrophages, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and epithelial cells. This provides valuable information on the cellular components present in the respiratory system. Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) by Liquid-Based Cytology (LBC) is a diagnostic procedure that involves collecting cells and fluid from the lower respiratory tract. During the procedure, a bronchoscope is used to infuse sterile saline solution into a lung segment, which is then withdrawn along with cellular components. LBC is employed to process the collected samples, improving cell preservation and slide preparation.
