Breast Carcinoma Profile I

The "Breast Carcinoma Profile I" test is performed on a breast lumpectomy specimen to assess certain important markers in breast cancer, including Estrogen Receptor (ER), Progesterone Receptor (PR), and Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2/neu). The test involves immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining for ER, PR, and HER2/neu. If the HER2/neu test result is equivocal or borderline, it is reflexed to a fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) test for further evaluation. These markers play a crucial role in determining the molecular subtype of breast cancer and help guide treatment decisions. ER and PR status indicate whether the cancer is hormone receptor-positive or hormone receptor-negative, which is essential in choosing hormonal therapies.
