Allergen, Individual-Food Olive Olea Europaea

Olives are fruits that are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Recent studies have shown that olives may improve heart health, alleviate inflammation, and reduce the overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the body. Due to its many health benefits, olives are an essential ingredient in products like oils, butters, cosmetics and soaps, hair products (hair oils, shampoo, conditioners), sauces, dressings etc.

Hypersensitive people who ingest olives or olive-based products may experience mild to moderate allergic symptoms. Individuals that live in areas where olive trees are prevalent may also experience seasonal allergies due to their pollen. In addition, olives or their tree pollen may activate an unnecessary response in an individual's immune system. The body views certain substances as harmful and produces IgE antibodies to combat invaders. Unfortunately, these antibodies cause histamine to be released, which causes an allergic reaction.
