Yeast (also known as baker's yeast or brewer's yeast) is a microscopic, single-celled fungus. The most common form is Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which is the principal variety used in most bakeries and breweries. The Allergen, Individual - Food Bakers Yeast test measures if you have a yeast allergy. It checks your blood for specific antibodies (IgE) produced by your immune system in response to baker's yeast. This test is done if you experience symptoms like itching, rash, or digestive problems after consuming yeast-containing foods to confirm if you have a true allergy.

Yeast is extremely prevalent in a multitude of food products. If you believe you are allergic to yeast, it is best to avoid breads and baked goods, beer, wine, and ciders, vinegar and cereals.

Yeast may be a hidden allergen in mayonnaise, ketchup and other processed foods, particularly those enriched with B-complex vitamins. Yeast-derived products include flavor enhancers, flavorants (especially in smoke-flavored meats), enzymes (e.g., to reduce lactose in milk), and ingredients in vitamin and mineral supplements, other pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
