Pigeon Feathers Allergy Blood Test measures the IgE antibody levels in the blood to detect pigeon feathers allergy.

In India, pigeon feathers is one of the more significant causes of allergic reactions when compared to other bird feathers. Allergies may become apparent after exposure to pigeons, handling them or being in the area where dust is circulated from housing the birds.

Allergies to other bird species, such as parakeet, parrot, duck, goose, and chicken, may also be encountered by individuals with pigeon feather allergies.

When an individual with a pigeon feather allergy becomes exposed to these allergens, their immune system recognizes the substances as foreign. As a result, it stimulates the plasma cells to produce specific antibodies that combat the invaders. These antibodies cause a chemical known as histamine to be released, triggering an allergic reaction. The allergic reaction may occur within minutes or a few hours after initial exposure to pigeon feather allergens and may vary from mild to severe depending on the individual.

This test may help individuals determine if they have a pigeon feather allergy, so they may work with their healthcare provider to develop a management and treatment plan.
