HCV-IgM Antibody by EIA - Serum

This test measures the levels of HCV antibodies in the serum of your blood sample.

• To diagnose, manage and for follow-up of patients related to infection of HCV
• To identify donors for blood, tissue or organ transplant
• To screen high-risk populations such as drug users, healthcare
• workers, and those who may have unprotected sex with multiple partners.

This test is typically recommended if you have

• risk factors such as sharing needles, unprotected sex with multiple partners, organ transplantation, or transfusions received before 1992
• symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, fever, nausea or abdominal discomfort
• as part of routine blood tests for people over 60 or healthcare workers with exposure to blood or body fluids

Elevated levels of liver enzymes and/or positive HCV antibodies may indicate chronic HCV infection.

A phlebotomist will insert a needle into a vein in your arm and draw blood into a tube. The blood sample will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

No fasting or other special preparation is necessary.

Inform your doctor about any medications you take, including over-the-counter and herbal supplements. Also, tell them if you have any specific requirements.

HCV RNA: This viral load test measures the amount of Hepatitis C virus circulating in the blood.

Liver function tests: These tests measure the levels of enzymes produced by the liver and assess liver health.

Abdominal ultrasound or CT scan: Imaging tests like these provide detailed images of the liver, helping identify any damage caused by infection or other conditions.
