HCV RNA Combo - Serum

HCV RNA Combo detects SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase), anti-HCV by EIA (Enzyme Immunoassay), HCV-RNA by RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) and HCV-Genotyping by Sanger Sequencing.

• To diagnose hepatitis C infection
• To monitor the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection
• To assess the risk of developing liver disease or liver cancer
• To determine which treatment will work best for you

Your doctor may recommend this test if you

• have symptoms suggestive of hepatitis C such as jaundice, fatigue, fever, or light-coloured stool,
• have been exposed to someone with hepatitis C,
• have a history of unsafe injection drug use,
• are receiving hemodialysis,
• were born between 1945 and 1965, or
• have a high risk of developing hepatitis C.

An elevated level of HCV-RNA may indicate an active hepatitis C infection. However, abnormal results do not necessarily mean that you have a serious condition.

A healthcare professional will collect a 3ml blood sample from your arm.

The blood sample will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

• Inform your clinician of your clinical history and any medications you take.
• Inform your doctor if you have any specific requirements.
• Do not eat or drink for 8–12 hours before the test.

• Liver function test: This test measures the levels of various enzymes and proteins in your blood and helps diagnose liver-related issues.
• Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg): This test detects the presence of hepatitis B surface antigen and helps diagnose hepatitis B infection.
