Glycine Quantitative Urine 24H Test

This test measures the amount of glycine present in your urine over a period of 24 hours.

• To screen for metabolic disorders or inborn errors of metabolism in newborns.
• To monitor treatment effectiveness for metabolic disorders or inborn errors of metabolism.
• To assess kidney function.

This test is recommended in the following circumstances:

• If there is a suspicion of metabolic disorders or inborn errors of metabolism based on clinical history
• If a physician has provided a provisional diagnosis of a metabolic disorder or inborn error in metabolism

Abnormal results may indicate an underlying metabolic disorder or inborn error of metabolism. 

You will be given a special container to collect all your urine over 24 hours. The sample should be kept refrigerated until it is brought to the laboratory for testing.

To prepare for this test, remember the following points:

• You do not need to fast or restrict any food or fluid intake.
• You can carry out your normal daily activities but try to avoid strenuous exercise or excessive fluid intake.
• Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements that you are taking before the test.
