Calculus (Stone) Analysis By Automated FTIR (Other)

Calculus Analysis measures the chemical composition of kidney stones. It identifies the presence of various substances such as calcium, oxalate, uric acid, and cystine in the stones.

• To determine the composition of kidney stones and guide appropriate treatment

• To identify risk factors for stone formation, such as high levels of calcium or uric acid

• To monitor the effectiveness of treatment for kidney stones

• To provide insight into the prevention of future stone formation

Your doctor may recommend a Calculus Analysis if you have

• a history of kidney stones,

• recurrent urinary tract infections,

• chronic kidney disease,

• family history of kidney stones, or

• suspicion of a specific type of stone based on symptoms or previous imaging tests.

Abnormal results may indicate an increased risk for future stone formation or an underlying medical condition.

During the test, you will be asked to provide a sample of kidney stone(s) in a plain container. The laboratory will use the FTIR method to analyse the composition of the stone sample accurately.

• Urinalysis: A test to analyse the components of urine, which can provide additional information about kidney function and possible causes of stone formation.
