ALPS Screen Panel by Flow Cytometry

This test measures the levels of immune cells in your blood that regulates your body's immune responses.

• To diagnose autoimmune diseases that affect the immune system
• To identify inherited disorders of the immune system, like ALPS
• To detect and monitor cancers originating from the immune cells
• To assess the effectiveness of treatments for autoimmune diseases and cancers

Your doctor may recommend this test if you

• have unexplained enlarged lymph nodes, liver, or spleen,
• have symptoms suggestive of autoimmune disorders, such as fatigue, joint pain, or skin rash,
• have a family history of autoimmune or inherited immunodeficiency disorders,
• have a previous diagnosis of autoimmune diseases or cancers, or
• need to monitor autoimmune diseases or cancers over time.

Any abnormal count could indicate Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS), hence elevated or decreased levels may require further diagnostic tests.

The test requires a blood sample, usually drawn from a vein on the inside of your elbow. The test usually takes about 20 minutes.

• You may need to fast for a few hours before the test.
• Avoid taking any medications that could affect your immune system for a few days before the test.

To prepare for this test, take the following steps:

• Follow any specific instructions given by your doctor about fasting, diet, and medications
• Inform your doctor if you are taking immunosuppressants or have had a recent infection. Also, tell your doctor about any other specific requirements.
• Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

• Complete Blood Count: This test measures various components of your blood, including red blood cells and platelets.
• Immunoglobulin Testing: This test measures the levels of antibodies in your blood and helps diagnose autoimmune diseases.
• Lymph Node Biopsy: This test involves removing some lymph node tissue for laboratory analysis.

Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) Panel or flow cytometry immunophenotyping for ALPS

ALPS is a rare genetic disorder that affects the immune system. Affected individuals have an overactive immune system and are at increased risk of developing autoimmune diseases and lymphomas. Symptoms may include enlarged lymph nodes, liver, or spleen, and frequent infections.
