Allergen,Individual-Food Strawberry Fragaria vesca
Overview
Strawberries belong to the Rosaceae fruit family. Strawberries are an ideal addition to a healthy diet. Sadly, though, strawberries are one of the most frequent causes of food allergies. Allergic individuals must avoid coming in contact with and eating strawberries. Avoidance can be challenging and is not as straight-forward as it would seem. Strawberry leaves are often used in herbal teas and cosmetics; strawberry flavoring is used in medicines and skincare items; and strawberry components can be present in air fresheners, shampoos, conditioners, laundry detergent, and other household goods. Allergic individuals should carefully read the labels of such items.
An individual who is allergic to strawberries may discover that it may be necessary to avoid other fruits of this family, including cherries, apricots, apples, pears, plums, peaches, raspberries.
An allergy to strawberry triggers a reaction in an individual's immune system. The body views certain substances as toxic and produces IgE antibodies to these contaminants. These antibodies cause histamine to be released, which will cause the symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Specific IgE measures the concentration of circulating allergen specific IgE for food allergen strawberry.
This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.
Detection of IgE antibodies indicates an increased likelihood of allergy to strawberry that may be responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms. A negative result indicates that the symptoms are not due to strawberry allergies and other differential diagnoses must be considered
