Allergen,Individual-FoodMangoMangifera Indica
Overview
Mangoes are the fruit of an evergreen tree, in the same family as cashew, pistachio and poison ivy. Mangoes are commonly eaten peeled and raw, but can also be made into fruit salads, as well as pickles, chutneys and drinks. Ground mango seeds are a source of flour, and the juice can be used as a meat tenderiser.
Several allergens found within mango have been characterised, both major and minor. Mango may result in hypersensitivity reactions in mango-sensitised individuals. Adverse reactions may occur as a result of ingestion of mango or contact with mango skin.

Specific IgE measures the concentration of circulating allergen specific IgE for food allergen Mango.
This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.
Both: Negative: < 0.1 KAU/L
Both: Positive: => 0.1 KAU/L
Detection of IgE antibodies indicates an increased likelihood of allergy to Mango that may be responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms. A negative result indicates that the symptoms are not due to Mango allergies and other differential diagnoses must be considered.
