Allergen,Individual-DustHouse Dust Greer Labs
Overview
This IgE blood allergy test will determine if you are allergic to House Dust (Greer Labs).
House dust is a mix of sloughed-off skin cells, hair, clothing fibers, bacteria, dust mites, bits of dead bugs, soil particles, pollen, and microscopic specks of plastic.
When an individual with a house dust allergy becomes exposed to them, their immune system recognizes the substances as foreign. As a result, it stimulates the plasma cells to produce specific antibodies that combat the invaders. These antibodies cause a chemical known as histamine to be released, triggering an allergic reaction. The allergic reaction may occur within minutes or a few hours after initial exposure to house dust and may vary from mild to severe depending on the individual.

Negative: < 0.1 KAU/L
Positive: >= 0.1 KAU/L
Detection of IgE antibodies indicates an increased likelihood of allergy to house dust that may be responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms. A negative result indicates that the symptoms are not due to house dust allergies and other differential diagnoses must be considered.
