This test detects the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB Complex) or non-tuberculosis bacteria in respiratory samples.

Your doctor might recommend this test if you have • Symptoms suggestive of tuberculosis such as chronic cough, weight loss, night sweats, and fatigue • Abnormal chest X-ray findings • Exposure to individuals with active TB • A positive tuberculin skin test (TST) or interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) • Suspected non-tuberculosis bacterial infection in the respiratory system

Abnormal results may indicate the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB Complex) or non-tuberculosis bacteria and an active TB infection or other bacterial respiratory infections.

A healthcare professional will collect a respiratory sample (such as BAL or sputum) in a sterile container, which will be sent to the lab for testing.
