ASO (Anti-streptolysin O) is an antibody that the body produces in response to a streptococcal infection caused by group A Streptococcus bacteria. The ASO test is a blood test that measures the level of ASO antibodies in the blood, and it is used to diagnose a recent or past streptococcal infection.

ASO titers are reported as a quantitative value, which indicates the level of ASO antibodies in the blood. A high ASO titer indicates that the body is producing a large number of ASO antibodies in response to a streptococcal infection. The ASO titer peaks around three to five weeks after the onset of a streptococcal infection and can remain elevated for several months after the infection has resolved.
