This test is recommended for pregnant females post 20 weeks of pregnancy. Initial signs of pre-eclampsia are new onset of hypertension and proteinuria.
Test includes testing for Total Testosterone, Albumin , SHBG and finally calculation of bioavailable testosterone by standard algorithm. A number of conditions and medications are known to increase or decrease the SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin, Serum) concentration, which may cause bound and available testosterone concentration to change.
