Leukemia Aml Panel By Fish Test, Leukemic Blood

The panel measures AML1/ETO, PML RARA, RARA gene rearrangement and MLL gene rearrangement by FISH analysis.

• The test is done in newly diagnosed AML cases to assess the treatment response.
• Used to diagnose the subtypes of AML based on the cell morphology and myeloid lineage involved
• The panel helps monitor response to therapy with specific probes (CHR FISHI) or progression of disease.
• The most common chromosome abnormalities associated with AML are included in the panel and thus has diagnostic and prognostic relevance.

AML1/ETO, PML RARA, RARA gene rearrangement and MLL gene rearrangement are some of the common mutation analysed by FISH analysis.

Leukemia may often be asymptomatic in the early stages. People with following clinical signs should however, undergo the test:

• Pale looking skin
• Fatigue, easy tiredness
• Unexplained weight loss
• Frequent infections, fever
• Bone or joint pain and tenderness
• Easy bleeding or bruising with red spots or purplish discoloration.

This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.

Medical history / Heamato-pathological reports is required.

Normal Result indicates no evidence of t (8;21), t (15;17), translocation or rearrangements involving the chromosomal patterns.

Positive or abnormal result indicates t (8;21), t (15;17) translocation or rearrangements involving PML RARA, RARA and MLL gene.

Further correlation with clinical findings, bone marrow studies and cytogenetics studies should also be done.

Based on the results, the prognosis can be determined.
