Frequently Asked Questions

The AMH Supreme test measures the AMH, FSH, LH, Prolactin, Testosterone (Total & Free), TSH, E2, Progesterone levels in the blood.

  • Used for assessment of ovarian reserve in the assessment of infertility & assisted reproduction techniques (e.g. IVF)
  • Serves as a biomarker to predict risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)
  • Helps in the diagnosis of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), disorders of sexual development in children and in monitoring of ovarian tumours.
  • Evaluation of menstrual irregularities

People with the following symptoms:

  • Patients with symptoms of menstrual irregularities
  • Those with abnormal sexual characteristics
  • Females with difficulties conceiving to know the ovarian stimulation.
  • Those at risk for pituitary or hormone dependant tumours.
  • Patients with anorchia, testicular failure, menopause, precocious puberty.

This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.

AMH [Anti-Mullerian Hormone] Inhibiting Substance

High levels are seen in Polycystic ovarian syndrome, irregular menstrual cycles, Granulosa cell tumor and in menopause.

During Controlled Ovarian Stimulation (COS) high levels are indicative of hyperstimulation.

Low levels indicate reduced ovarian reserve.

FSH - Follicle Stimulating Hormone

FSH is increased in Luteal Phase of Menstrual cycle, Ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome, Complete testicular feminization syndrome, primary hypogonadism, perimenopausal, post menopause, hormonal therapy, heavy smokers or drinkers or people with a vitamin D deficiency.

Normal to decreased FSH occurs in polycystic ovary disease in females, pituitary gland tumour or adenoma, secondary hypogonadism, hyperprolactinemia, very underweight patients.

LH-Luteinizing Hormone

LH is increased in Luteal Phase of Menstrual cycle, Complete testicular feminization syndrome, Primary LH is decreased in primary ovarian hyper function in females, Primary hypergonadism in male, In failure of the pituitary or hypothalamus, Hyperprolactinemia, Polycystic Ovary disease (PCOS).

Testosterone Serum

In females high testosterone levels are seen in Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), Adrenal tumor, Congenital Adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and idiopathic hirsutism.

Low levels are seen in Primary & secondary hypogonadism, Testicular feminization.

TSH(Ultrasensitive)

TSH is prone to physiologic, seasonal and diurnal variation  .  Levels are associated with regular menstrual cycle and ovulation and any increase or decrease should be further investigated.

E2 - Estradiol Test

High levels are seen in tumor of the ovaries/adrenal glands/testicles, cirrhosis, early puberty in girls and delayed puberty in boys.

During Controlled Ovarian Stimulation (COS) high levels are indicative of hyperstimulation.

Low levels are seen in primary ovarian insufficiency, menopause, turner syndrome, eating disorder and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Prolactin Test

High level of prolactin is normal during pregnancy and after childbirth while the mother is nursing. High levels may also be seen in Prolactinoma, anorexia nervosa, hypothalamus disorders, hypothyroidism, Kidney disease, Liver disease, polycystic ovary syndrome and other pituitary diseases and tumors. High levels are associated with infertility

Progesterone Test

High levels are generally seen in some ovarian cysts, molar pregnancies, rare forms of ovarian cancer,

adrenal cancer, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and testicular tumors.

Low levels may be associated with decreased ovarian function, amenorrhea, ectopic pregnancy,

miscarriage & toxaemia in late pregnancy.

FSH is a hormone secreted by Anterior pituitary gland and regulates the development, growth, pubertal maturation, and reproductive processes of the body. In women, FSH helps control the menstrual cycle and stimulates the growth of eggs in the ovaries. FSH levels in women change throughout the menstrual cycle

LH is a hormone co-secreted with FSH by Anterior pituitary gland which together control growth and reproductive activities of the gonadal tissues.

Testosterone is the principal androgen in men and made by the testicles and adrenal glands. In women, it is found in small amounts and made by the ovaries and adrenal glands. Testosterone aids in the development of secondary sexual characteristics like enlargement of the genitals, body hair growth, development of muscle and deepening of the voice.

TSH is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland and is responsible for the production of T3 and T4 hormones. Thyroid hormones have an impact on the physiological bodily functions and are indirectly also related with the sexual functions in the body. Normal levels of this hormone aid in ovulation and hence aid fertilization.

Estradiol is primarily produced by ovaries and hence E2 levels helps to know the ovarian sufficiency, especially in preparation to IVF treatments. It also serves as a biomarker to predict risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in women receiving constant ovarian stimulation treatment.

Prolactin is a hormone secreted by pituitary gland. High levels of prolactin in non-lactating mothers can lead to amenorrhoea and infertility by inhibiting production of FSH.

Progesterone is a hormone secreted by corpus luteumand by the placenta during the pregnancy. Normal levels aid in preparing the endometrial lining after release of ovum from ovary (ovulation).
