Infertility

Infertility can occur in both males and females. It may be that one partner cannot contribute to conception, or when a woman is unable to carry a pregnancy to full term.

It is often defined as not conceiving after 12 months of regular sexual intercourse without the use of birth control.

Causes in men:-

▸ Low sperm count
▸ Low sperm mobility (motility)
▸ Abnormal sperm

Causes in women:-

▸ Age
▸ Smoking
▸ Alcohol
▸ Being obese or overweight
▸ Eating disorders & Diet
▸ Exercise
▸ Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
▸ Exposure to some chemicals
▸ Mental stress

Some medical conditions can affect fertility such as

▸ Premature ovarian failure:
▸ Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
▸ Hyperprolactinemia
▸ Poor egg quality
▸ Thyroid problems
▸ Chronic conditions
▸ High Cholesterol
