NEW DELHI: Looking for a career in diagnostics? It’s probably time you updated your curriculum vitae.
Coming April, the top three players — SRL Diagnostics, Dr Lai Path Labs and Metropolis— are readying their national and international expansion plans. Following this, the companies plan to roll out about 9,000 job openings in the coming three to five years.
An arm of Fortis Healthcare, and the largest diagnostic chain in India, SRL Diagnostics, is planning to venture into a new line of businesses — veterinary and industrial diagnostics. The company is likely to add 5,000 people to its current headcount of 6,500 in the next five years.
“We have partnered with three state governments — Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh—to establish the pathology collection centres in the government hospitals, “said Sanjeev Vashishta, CEO, SRL Diagnostics.
Dr Lal Path Labs which witnessed impressive debuts at the stock exchange three months ago, plans to hire about 2,000 people.
“We have an asset-light model of growth. In the next five years, we anticipate to have additional 1,500-2,000 people said the spokesperson of Dr Lal Path Labs.
Mumbai-based Metropolis Healthcare also looks at increasing its headcount by 1,300 people to its existing workforce of 3,700. The seven-country 130-lab diagnostics chain, plans to recruit for key-management positions along with strengthening of the sales team and doctors.
“Doctors with post graduate degree in lab medicine fields such as pathology, microbiology biochemistry etc will be hired,” said Ameera Shah, MD and CEO, Metropolis Healthcare.
Other players, including Quest diagnostics and Star Labs are also drafting hiring and expansion plans.
“The diagnostic market is in an expanding mode. Diagnostics firms are hiring people at the specialist levels, and down the line, like pharmacists, technicians and business development professionals,” said Mayank Chandra, managing partner at a UK-based staffing firm, Antal International
