MUMBAI : METROPOLIS CORPORATE HISTORY

One of the first laboratories to offer comprehensive range of immunoassays by RIA, Metropolis has redefined diagnostic solutions time after time. A brief   look at their history provides one with an insight into the dedication and quality that is invested into their services.

1981- One of the first laboratories to offer comprehensive range of immunoassays by RIA

1983- Recognized as a referral centre of laboratory medicine at a national level.

1984- Started back-up services for IVF program.

1985- First to introduce HIV testing in Bombay.

1988- Added extensive range of tumour markers to the existing panel.

1989- Introduced automation in immunoassays in India.

1991- Introduced automation in microbiology- particularly for tuberculosis.

1995- First private laboratory to introduce Flow Cytometry.

1996- Pioneer in introducing Branch DNA technology in India & one of the first to do so in Asia.

1997- Introduced Nephelometry, standard technique for estimation of plasma proteins.

1998- Introduced a highly sensitive and specific technique TMA (Transcription Mediated Amplification) for the diagnosis of Tuberculosis from body fluids and tissues.

1999- Modern technology thin prep layer preparations was started, which enhances the cell cytology for the diagnosis of FNAC and Pap Smears.

2001- Introduced the LIS System.

2002 – Introduced real time SDS system, for the first time in India.

2003 - Added HPLC for Thalassemia studies.

2004 – Metropolis was awarded NABL certification. Introduced Biochip Technology. Completed CAP Proficiency Testing Program.

2005 – Introduction of HIV Drug Resistance Testing for the first time in Asia.  Awaiting CAP accreditation.

Founded by Dr Sushil Shah, Metropolis is the only organization in India which houses the largest Molecular Biology set up with all the 6 different Nucleic acid testing technologies, (PCR, b-DNA, Hybrid Capture, TMA, Real time PCR and Cobas Amplicor), hence ensuring requirement –specific technology. NABL accredited, the services at Metropolis are provided through full automation, regular calibration and controls. At Metropolis the needs of the patient are never compromised, cross checking mechanism for result checking (while feeding, reporting, signing) is done to ensure accurate results for the patient.

Even today the management at Metropolis continues to strive with enthusiasm and zeal to accomplish new goals and help bring the best to the people they serve .
